Just like Beecher Whitman in "The Angel Carver," Francis Wood has once again created a character that reaches past the pages of the book itself. Sherrod Dane in "Moonglow," like Beecher Whitman, has a closeness and respect for nature, but unlike Whitman, Dane derives a special communication and healing power from this closeness. Dane learns that when he opens himself to the forces of nature, that which he thought impossible becomes possible. Once again, like Beecher Whitman, I long to have a Sherrod Dane in my life.
